RoHS stands for “Restriction of Hazardous Substances” and is a directive created by the European Union (EU) to product workers and consumers from hazardous substances in electronic goods manufactured, sold and distributed in EU countries. In the original legislation, there were 6 restricted materials listed, but that number has since increased to 10.

10 Restricted materials on the RoHS List
The 10 restricted materials are:
- Cadmium (Cd): Less than 100 parts per million
- Lead (Pb): Less than 1000 parts per million
- Mercury (Hg): Less than 1000 parts per million
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr VI):Less than 1000 parts per million
- Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB):Less than 1000 parts per million
- Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): Less than 1000 parts per million
- Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): Less than 1000 parts per million
- Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): Less than 1000 parts per million
- Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): Less than 1000 parts per million
- Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): Less than 1000 parts per million
Following RoHS Standards ensures a global product
Since EU RoHS regulations apply to all electronic goods manufactured, sold or distributed in the EU, manufacturers in the U.S. must follow these policies if they are going to sell their goods in Europe or another RoHS compliant country, or if they are selling products to an entity that may sell them in a county adhering to RoHS standards. Offering RoHS compliant products ensures that you’ll be able to sell and distribute in any RoHS compliant country.
RoHS Compliant Materials at Epic Resins
RoHS compliant materials include:
- RM2018: A two component polyurethane potting and encapsulation compound.
- RM0218: An electric motor vehicle potting compound, RM 0218 is a single component epoxy adhesive. With excellent bonding and thermal properties, it has a 10-month shelf life at 25°C.
- S7527: A two component polyurethane compound for applications with high thermal stability. Flame rating is UL 94V-0, and RTI is 150° C. Conforms to UL 8750, the standard for LED equipment.
- S7475: A two component polyurethane potting compound for potting ECM’s and electronic devices. This material has a 4:1 mix ratio and can flow under PCB’s into tight tolerance areas. The low Tg creates excellent flexibility, especially during thermal shock and thermal cycling. At 4.8 mm it is UL 94 V-0 recognized, and is good for high heat generating applications with a 130° C weight loss.
- S0227: A thermally conductive single component epoxy for electronic vehicle (EV) motor potting compounds. S0227 is good for use in thermally demanding applications with a high thermal conductivity and a high Tg. This component is UL 94 V-0 recognized and has a CTE below 30 ppm.
- R1074-06/H4030-02: A UL 94 V-0 recognized epoxy potting compound with a long working life and low viscosity for use in tight tolerance applications.
