REACH Compliant electronics potting compounds, resins & more

REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals and is a regulation of the European Union (EU). Manufacturing products that are REACH compliant, even if you are not operating from an EU company, ensures a smooth manufacturing and distributing process, as well as products that are safe from toxins that can harm people or the environment. Many companies outside of the EU follow REACH standards, so being REACH compliant is always beneficial no matter where you are located.

Some examples of REACH compliant Epic Resins products include:
• Electronic potting compounds
• UL-Certified Flame Retardants
• LED Encapsulants
• Adhesives

Registration: Information is collected about substances used in manufacturing and importing

If a company uses more than one ton of a substance per year in manufacturing or importing, it’s required to collect information about these substances and register them. This information is kept in a registration dossier. Companies using the same substance are required to submit their registration jointly, which usually requires a fee.

Evaluation: Substances are reviewed by companies and the European Chemicals Agency

The substances that are registered are reviewed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), and companies can be required to submit more information on some substances even after being evaluated.

Authorisation: Substances of Very High Concern are identified and replaced

Authorisation’s purpose is to identify Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC), and replace them with safer alternatives. SVHC’s can be carcinogenic, mutagenic, toxic for reproduction, or bioaccumulative and toxic. Substances used in Scientific Research and Development (SR&D) are typically exempt from authorisation.

Restriction: Limiting use of or banning potentially hazardous materials

Restrictions are used to limit or ban potentially hazardous materials. Limiting a substance can include including certain labels for the substance, or requiring certain measures when it is used. Unlike registration, restriction can be applied to substances that are used in quantities of less than one ton a year. Restriction can also apply to one substance or a mixture of substances. Substances used in Scientific Research and Development (SR&D) are typically exempt from restriction.
